Salford City have allowed young attacking midfielder Ruben Butt to join Chester FC on a loan deal running until January. The 19-year-old, son of former Manchester United player Nicky Butt, will seek senior game time with the National League North side.
A promising prospect
Butt has made several appearances for Salford in League Two and the EFL Trophy. He announced himself with a standout performance in a 4-2 win over Wolves U21 at the Peninsula Stadium. That display highlighted the potential Salford see in the teenager.
The manager's view
Chester's manager welcomed the addition, framing it as a developmental step for the player. "We’re really pleased to welcome Ruben Butt to the club on loan from Salford City until January," he said. The gaffer compared Butt to Joe Boggan as a young talent needing competitive minutes. "He comes here knowing that nothing is guaranteed." He described Butt as technically gifted with plenty of quality and expressed hope the move would aid his development and allow him to make an impact over the coming months.
Salford's current context
The loan comes as Salford City handle their own campaign, currently sitting 15th in League Two with seven points from six matches. Their recent form shows two wins, one draw, and two defeats from the last five outings. The club will hope the temporary move provides Butt with the experience to return a more complete player, bolstering their options in the future. Chester FC have a busy Autumn schedule, with an upcoming trip to Buxton. Salford's next fixture is part of a packed fixtures list as they look to climb the table.
