Salford City seal Brendan Wiredu signing
Salford City have agreed a permanent deal for 26-year-old Brendan Wiredu, who has completed a medical after a mixed spell at Plymouth Argyle.
Wiredu signed for Plymouth Argyle from Fleetwood Town last summer. He has endured a mixed debut campaign, scoring an own goal on his Pilgrims debut and being sent off two matches later against Bolton Wanderers. He played one minute off the bench on the opening day against Stockport County.
The League Two big spenders have agreed a fee with Plymouth. Wiredu, a versatile midfielder capable of playing defensive midfield or centre-back, has undergone a medical with the Ammies ahead of the move.
Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley was coy about the links, noting that the arrival of Harvey White from Stevenage would likely impact Wiredu’s game time. Wiredu’s leadership experience at Fleetwood, where he captained the Cod Army, will be an asset for Salford.
The transfer represents sensible business for Plymouth, who will need to reinvest the funds in squad depth, particularly in midfield and defence.
