Transfer Details

Salford City have signed 26-year-old midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu on a multi-year deal from Plymouth Argyle. The move was completed ahead of Saturday’s League Two match with Chesterfield, giving the Ammies an experienced option at a busy stage of the season. The transfer still requires approval from the relevant authorities.

Player Profile

Wiredu progressed through Charlton Athletic’s academy before establishing himself in the lower leagues with spells at Colchester United and Fleetwood Town. He joined Plymouth in 2025 and has now moved to Greater Manchester in search of a fresh challenge. Known for his energy, physical presence and versatility, he can also fill in at the back when needed. In a statement, he said, “I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. We know what the ambition is and what we want to do this season.” He describes himself as a player who works relentlessly without the ball, stays composed in possession and contributes goals when possible.

Club Reaction

Salford have welcomed Wiredu and his family to the club, with the squad already integrating him ahead of the upcoming fixture. The club’s ambition for the season is clear, and the new signing is expected to bolster the midfield.

Off-the-Pitch

Away from football, Wiredu has launched a foundation supporting young people in England and Ghana through sport.
