'Something new' - Luke Molyneux on His Fresh Start at Salford City
Luke Molyneux Joins Salford City After Doncaster Rovers Exit
Luke Molyneux, a seasoned player having spent four years with Doncaster Rovers, is poised to embark on a fresh chapter in his career by moving to Salford City. He will join the team alongside a new manager, Peter Cklamovski, who has taken over following Karl Robinson's departure.
Molyneux played an integral part for Doncaster during his four-year tenure, making 209 appearances and netting 40 goals while adding 37 assists. Despite offering him a new contract, the club could not retain his services, with Molyneux opting to move to League Two.
New Philosophy and Ambitions at Salford City
Sitting down for an interview with the club's website, Molyneux shared his excitement about integrating into Salford. He stated, 'I’m just looking forward to getting started, implement what the gaffer wants, his style of play is going to be something new and I’m looking forward to it.'
With a focus on promotion under Peter Cklamovski, Molyneux is keen to bring his goalscoring capability and creative flair to Salford. He noted, ‘I try and set up as many goals as possible, score as many goals as I can, and I think that’s something that’s important, especially in a team that wants to get promoted.'
Molyneux also expressed his desire to entertain the fans by playing effectively with both goals and assists. "We’ve got a lot of good players in this squad, a lot of exciting players, and the goal for us is promotion," he concluded.
Doncaster Rovers’ Perspectives on Molyneux’s Exit
Grant McCann, manager at the time of Molyneux's departure from Doncaster, released a statement expressing understanding. 'Luke, unfortunately, has not wanted to get into negotiations and rejected the deal, which is his prerogative,' McCann said.
Doncaster’s move to reject a bid for Molyneux highlights that this transition was well in motion before any financial offers were made. Despite the disappointment of losing such an important player, their priorities remained on fostering new opportunities within the club.
