Salford City produced a powerful second-half display to beat Walsall 4-2 and tighten their grip on top spot in League Two. The Ammies came from behind twice at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Monday night to secure a fourth consecutive victory and move three points clear at the summit. This result on Monday 26 October stays as league leaders, having accrued 25 points from 12 games with a record of eight wins, one draw, and three losses.
Macauley Langstaff gave the visitors a lead just before the break, finishing from Luke Molyneux's cross in the 45th minute. Jorge Grant doubled the advantage nine minutes after the restart, but Walsall hit back with two quick goals. Aaron Pressley reduced the deficit in the 58th minute before Lewis Simper headed an equaliser eight minutes later.
Immediate response
Salford's response was instant. Within a minute of the equaliser, substitute Kallum Cesay restored the lead, heading in from Langstaff's flick-on. The points were sealed in the 82nd minute when another substitute, Adebola Oluwo, powered home a header from another Molyneux delivery to make it 4-2.
Their recent form reads four wins and a draw from the last five outings, a run that includes a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday 20 October and a 2-1 home victory over Crawley Town on Saturday 17 October. Walsall, who saw more of the ball, had their first league defeat of the campaign. The team's overall attacking prowess is reflected in their season tally of 19 goals scored and 12 conceded.
Salford made five changes during the contest, with the introductions of Cesay and Oluwo proving decisive. The team now turns its attention to a home fixture against eighth-placed Exeter City this Saturday 31 October. That match at the Peninsula Stadium kicks off at 3pm. The club's leading marksman this season is R. Graydon, who has netted 11 times across all competitions.
